Review of the Show:
A buzzing crowd. A gray tulle boa. Scarlet spotlights. Fantabulous fits… “Ooh, I kinda like it, gets me excited. The sound of giants, we can't keep this quiet. Ooh, I kinda like it, gets me excited. Let's start a riot, we could start a riot…”
The Scarlet Opera takes the stage with the grace and glamour of all the classic, iconic rock stars. The building is shaking from all the movement from both the crowd & lead vocalist Luka Bazulka as he stomps around the stage along to the beat provided by drummer Justin Siegal. Chance Taylor, the group’s guitarist, flanks Bazulka’s right and Daniel Zuker, bassist, is on his left, both dancing and moving with the upbeat tune.
This is the band’s first major tour and they perform as an opener for Ava Max and her “On Tour (Finally)” tour. They opened the show with their featured track “Riot” from their most recent EP “Comedy” & the energy only increased from then. From the epic cover of Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It” to pianist Colin Kendrick’s beautiful “tickling of the keys” in the band’s chosen encore track of “Alive”, the overall quality of the show was immensely gratifying.
For every show I attend, I keep a mental checklist of 3 key things during an artist’s performance: stage presence, crowd interaction, and overall energy. The Scarlet Opera is the epitome of a band that perfectly encapsulates all three. The band has an unspoken communication and connection on the stage and it’s a beautiful thing to witness firsthand. Moments where Taylor and Zuker took front-center stage together, lit by a brilliant spotlight & when Bazulka and Taylor had an endearing moment during their set as the lead vocalist wrapped his arm around the guitarist and placed a kiss on his cheek, shows just how much of a positive chemistry the bandmates have.
The Scarlet Opera is just getting started and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
